AFTERNOON PICKUP PROCEDURES
Greetings Parents and Caregivers:
We have received a number of concerns in the past couple of weeks concerning the car rider process in the afternoon. As you aware, the afternoon car rider dismissal takes place at 3:20 in front of the school. Although we may have parents on campus a minute or two early, we are not allowed to release any student prior to 3:20 pm. Once 3:20 arrives we are able to begin releasing students. As we all know, dismissal takes place on a major street (Franklin St.) that is extremely busy. We often see people not adhering to all safety concerns and that includes seeing drivers not always following the required speed limit for a school zone. We are becoming increasingly concerned for the safety of our students/your children. We are requesting that everyone picking up a student in the front of school in the afternoon stay in their car and get in the car rider line. The car rider line moves very quickly and is mostly clear by 3:25. We now have parents crossing Franklin St. to pick up their children and we are afraid someone may get injured because they are in between cars and cannot be seen by the moving cars or the cars in the line, therefore, we are requesting that no parent park at the gas station across the street to pick up their students. It is extremely dangerous and we have witnessed several accidents almost occur. Additionally, we would like to request that people do not pull up in front of the car rider line and park in an effort to get out and pick up your child quicker. There is a line and it is only fair to allow the people who have been waiting to receive their child in the order in which they arrived on campus. The team on duty needs to focus on the safety of ALL of the students and if everyone isn’t following proper procedures, it serves as a distraction, which takes away from the supervision of students. Please follow these procedures and we will get your child to your car in a quick and safe manner that protects the safety of everyone! Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this matter.
With the students at heart,
MORNING DROP OFF PROCEDURES
In addition to the car pool line in the afternoon, we want to address morning drop off procedures. Again, this is solely to ensure the safety of ALL students.
1. The school opens to parents and students, via the single point of entry at the Franklin Avenue entrance, at 8:00 a.m. Buses line up at this time along Franklin Avenue, from which bus riders then get off at that point. Please observe the posted parking regulations along Franklin Avenue at this time, as well as the directives of duty staff. Our main concern is that parked vehicles not impede the safety of the buses attempting to unload students. The “Bingo Hall” parking lot is available for short term parking if desired at this time. Please do not enter any of the open fence gates on campus at any time (unless carpool, discussed below). Instead, utilize the single point of entry. Another reminder, the campus is not open to receive parents and students until 8am.
2. Please do not drop students off and leave them unattended at the single point of entry, or any other peripheral area of the campus, before 8:00 a.m. If escorting students onto the campus by foot, please walk with them to the single point of entry. Duty staff will open the door at 8:00 a.m. No child who is not riding a bus should ever approach the single point of entry at any time without being escorted by a parent or guardian. It is a safety issue for all students that we must adhere to.
3. A carpool dropoff area exists for your convenience if you are transporting your child to school in a private vehicle and you do not wish to exit your vehicle. Simply drive onto the campus via the open gate on Van Trump Street nearest Hancock Street. Follow the directives of the staff member on duty and exit onto Hancock Street after your child exits the vehicle.
4. A student arriving on campus after 8:30 a.m. is considered tardy. You, as a parent or guardian, are responsible for entering the main building hallway if this is the circumstance and signing a tardy slip administered by a staff member.
Ultimately, these guidelines have been created for the safety of our students, staff, families, and extended community. Please thoughtfully adhere to them so that we may have as safe an environment as possible. Of course we are welcome to any thoughts, concerns, or suggestions you may have about such.
